CHENEY, Wash. - Eastern Washington University linebacker J.C. Sherritt is among four players who were added to the Buck Buchanan Award Watch List Thursday by the Sports Network.

The Buchanan Award, which is in its 15th year, is given to the top defensive player in the Football Championship Subdivision. Last year the award was won by Eastern defensive end Greg Peach, now with the Edmonton Eskimos in the Canadian Football League.

Ranked third nationally in tackles with 84, Sherritt is averaging 14 stops per game. The 2006 graduate of Pullman (Wash.) High School piled up a FCS-high and school record 24 tackles last week against Weber State. He also has 10.5 tackles for loss (ranking 17th in FCS), one interception for a 36-yard touchdown, three forced fumbles and two pass breakups this season.

There are currently 20 players on that watch list, as well as 20 on the list for the Walter Payton Award given to the top player in FCS. Eastern quarterback Matt Nichols remains a candidate on the Payton Watch List as the 21st-ranked Eagles play this week at No. 3 Montana.
