Spokane on list of best sports towns - sort of

Pittsburgh may be king, but Spokane ranks right up there - in the top 102.  The Sporting News ranked Spokane recently as the No. 102 best sports town in America.

Pittsburgh, with the world champion Steelers, the Pirates and the Penguins, top the list.  Philadelphia, Boston, Chicago and Los Angeles round out the top 5.  The sports outlet ranked a total of 399 sports markets.

Spokane, home of the af2 champion Spokane Shock, the Chiefs and Indians, not to mention the Gonzaga Bulldogs, comes in at No. 102.  Pullman, with the Washington State Cougars, comes in at No. 113.  Moscow is at No. 128 and Cheney is No. 206.

The Sporting News said it looked at teams' win-loss record, postseason appearances, applicable power ratings, number of teams and attendance.

Other cities in the region include Boise (#69), Yakima (#397), Idaho Falls (#375), Missoula (#175), Seattle (#52), Tacoma (#295), Portland (#32), Eugene, Ore. (#68).
