Lindsay Petroni tallied 33 digs, tied for the seventh-most in school history to lead Eastern Washington past Idaho Wednesday night.  The Eagles won in four sets, 25-18, 25-17, 21-25 and 25-22.

Idaho (5-9) fell behind 2-0 before rebounding to take set three. After rallying to tie the score at 20-20 late in the fourth set, the Eagles (9-5) scored four-straight points and held on to take the match.

Petroni's 33 digs were also tied for the second-highest total in a match fewer than five sets, and tied for sixth-most by any Division I player in a match four sets or fewer so far in 2009.  The sophomore more than doubled her previous career high of 14, set in a 3-0 loss at No. 9 California on Sept. 11.  She entered the match with 57 career digs, 42 of them from this year and 15 from last year when she was a freshman.

As a team, Idaho hit .135 compared to .209 for Eastern Washington. The Vandals held a 13-10 advantage in blocks, but the Eagles took a 74-58 margin for digs.

Eastern Washington returns to Big Sky play with a home match versus  Sacramento State at 7 p.m. on Friday (Oct. 2). The Hornets are 9-7, 1-1 in Big Sky play. Eastern will bring a 4-0 league mark into the match.

Idaho will play its home opener Saturday (Oct. 3) at 1 p.m. The Vandals will return to Western Athletic Conference action vs. Fresno State at Memorial Gym.
