SPOKANE, Wash. - The Spokane Chiefs are feeling good about their 5-2 win over Tri-City last Saturday.  But now they turn their sights to the Portland Winterhaks, who come to Spokane Arena on Friday.

Spokane, now 2-1 for the season, hit the ice Tuesday afternoon for practice.  They'll have a full week to get ready for Portland, even though they'd rather be playing games instead.  The Chiefs plan on using their time wisely this week.

"It gives us a chance to work on some things, a little bit of conditioning mixed in," said head coach Hardy Sauter.  "I guess it teaches the guys patience and preparation.  We'll try to use it as a positive, but I think it'd be better if we had a game this week."

"There are always little things you can work on that you can't do in games," said the Chiefs' Jared Cowen.  "We'll address that over the next couple of days.  I think it'll make a big difference though."

This Chiefs and Winterhawks face of Friday at 7 p.m. Saturday, the team travels to Tri-City to take on the Americans.

Through the first two weeks of the season the Chiefs and Hawks have taken the early lead in the WHL's U.S. Division, with Portland starting 3-1-0-0 throough four games.  The Chiefs earned a point in all three games they've played with a 2-0-1-0 mark through three games.

The Chiefs will play Friday's game without the services of T.C. Cratsenberg.  The Western Hockey League suspended Cratsenberg for one game after receiving a match penalty against Tri-City last Saturday.
