After a successful scrimmage on Sunday, the Spokane Chiefs took Monday off to prepare for their first preseason game of the year.  The team travels to the west side on Friday to play in the Everett Silvertips Annual Preseason Tournament.

The Chiefs wrapped up their short preseason camp with a scrimmage on Sunday - the annual Red and White game.  Team veteran Mitch Wahl scored two goals and had an assist.  Levko Koper added another gol and two helpers as the Red beat the White in front of a crowd of more than 2,000 fans.

"It was outstanding," Chiefs head coach Hardy Sauter said in a news release after the game. "We're going to hit the ground running this week and implement some simple systems and prepare for the Everett tournament."

Sunday's scrimmage gave coaches an opportunity to watch the prospects they gathered during the offseason.  Fourteen of the 43 players who participated in the scrimmage were from the 2008-2009 WHL Bantam Draft, including their last two first-round picks Mitch Holmberg (21st) and Reid Gow (16th).  Connor Chartier, Spokane's second round pick in 2009, scored two goals for the White team, one of them on a penalty shot.

The Chiefs open the preseason tournament on Friday against the Portland Winterhawks, Tri-City on Saturday and Everett on Sunday.  They don't play at home until they meet the Tri-City Americans on September 26.
