UW softball star Lawrie finalist for Sportswoman of the Year

SEATTLE - Washington softball ace Danielle Lawrie has been named a finalist for the sportswoman of the year award by the Women's Sports Foundation.

Lawrie's nomination was announced on Monday. She is nominated in the team category, representing women who play team sports.

Lawrie pitched Washington to its first national championship this spring, as the Huskies defeated Florida in the Women's College World Series finals. Lawrie led the country in strikeouts (521) and victories (42), and was named the USA Softball college player of the year and Pac-10 pitcher of the year. She also was the Honda Award winner for softball and nominated for an ESPY award.
