Indians brush off Emeralds in extra innings

Aja Barto singles in winning run in 11th inning

SPOKANE, WA - The Spokane Indians were able to defeat the Eugene Emeralds Thursday night at Avista Stadium in front of 4,888 on lookers. Indians outfielder Aja Barto had the game winning single in the bottom of the 11th to score Miguel Velazquez from second for a final score of 7-6.

Spokane got on the scoreboard first in the 1st inning on singles by Jason Ogata and Velazquez, taking a 2-0 lead. Everett answered right back in the 2nd with four runs of their own. The Em's added another run in the 5th.

Tommy Mendonca hit a two run home run in the 6th to bring the score to 5-4. Eugene added one more in the top of the 7th but the Indians plated two runners in the bottom of the frame to tie it up at 6-6. The game remained scoreless until Barto's game winner.

Mendonca finished the night 3-for-6, as did Barto. The Indians finished with 16 hits with four doubles.

Indians starter Trevor Hurley went six innings, allowing 10 hits and six runs while striking out six batters. Joseph Ortiz tossed 3.1 innings of relief, allowing just three hits while fanning two. Justin King closed out the game, pitching the final 1.2 innings while picking up the win - his second on the season.

The Indians return to Avista Stadium tomorrow for the fourth game of the five-game series against Eugene. Tomorrow night is Yoke's $1 Family Feast Night presented by Yoke's Fresh Market and 92.9 ZZU.
