Bears beat Canadians 5-4

YAKIMA, Wash. - Jake Hale and Randy Hamrick combined for 3 2/3 innings of scoreless relief to ensure a 5-4 Bears (12-20) victory over the Vancouver Canadians (12-20) at County Stadium Wednesday night.

Yakima broke a scoreless tie with five consecutive two-out base hits to take a 4-0 lead heading into the fourth inning.

Starting pitcher Ricardo Taveras cruised through the game's first five innings, allowing just one hit while striking out six, before Vancouver roughed him up for four runs to drive him out of the game with one out in the sixth inning.

The Bears took the game's final lead in the bottom of the sixth when pinch-runner Roberto Rodriguez scored on an inning-ending double play. Ryan Wheeler hit a sharp ground ball with runners on the corners, first baseman Anthony Aliotti gloved it, tagged the bag at first and then through to second where shortstop Michael Gilmartin tagged out Brent Greer. Since it wasn't a force out, Rodriguez's run counted to give the Bears a 5-4 advantage.
