PORTLAND, Ore. - Portland Trail Blazers draft pick Patty Mills has broken his foot and won't play in the NBA's Summer League.
The Blazers said Friday that Mills fractured the fifth metatarsal in his right foot during practice Thursday night. A timetable for the point guard's return has not been determined. Mills was scheduled to see a specialist on Friday.
After starring for Australia in the Beijing Olympics and for Saint Mary's in college, Mills was selected by the Blazers with the 55th overall pick in the NBA draft last month.
This is the second time this year that an injury has tripped up Mills' plans. He injured his shooting hand January 30 against Gonzaga in Spokane. He was left out of the Gaels' lineup for several weeks while he recovered, perhaps costing them a West Coast Championship.
According to a Blazers press release, Portland General Manager said the team will "do everything we can to help Patty get back on track to realize his NBA future."
