Holmgren doesn't rule out return to sports, NFL

Posted: Updated:

Former Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren said Tuesday he would not rule out returning to the NFL next year.

Homgren, who left the Seahawks after last season, is taking care of his granddaughter in Utah for the time being.  He said during a radio interview on KJR Tuesday morning that returning to the league is definitely an option.

"I think I want to work again, yeah, absolutely," he said.  "Take the year off and after next season is over I plan to go back to work.  But where and in what capacity, that is really pretty vague.  I don't know.  But I know this: I want to do something.  That is pretty much a given."

During an interview that aired Sunday on Q13 in Seattle, Holmgren said retirement has been enjoyable, and sometimes challenging.

"I think if you do something for so long and work as hard at it as you did and love it for so long, and then all of a sudden stop, the natural thing that takes place is that you have those moments of wanting to know, ‘did I do the right thing?' or ‘do I want to get back in it?' And that's natural," he said.

Holmgrens's wife said she didn't realize how big of a part of his life coaching was until he walked away from the game. She said she's open to watching him return to sports in 2010.

During the interview with Q13, Holmgren said he couldn't say whether any teams have approached him in interest.
