Several North Idaho College men's basketball players signed to play with NCAA schools next season.

Melvin Jones, a 5-10 sophomore point guard from Seattle, has committed to play for Portland State University.

Jones was named to the All-Scenic West Athletic Conference first team and averaged 13.2 points per game. He was fourth in the SWAC with 3.6 assists per game and second for shooting from the arc at 48 percent. Last season, Jones averaged 10 points per game for the Cardinals, placing third on the team. Jones led Chief Sealth High School in Seattle with 18.8 points per game his senior year while earning first team All-Metro League honors.

Michel Swita, a 7-0 freshman center from Paris, France, will play for Montana State University in Bozeman next year.

Swita was limited to seven games this season because of a knee injury. Swita transferred to NIC from Delaware Technical and Community College in 2007.

Lateef Williams, a 6-2 sophomore guard from Annapolis, Md., has signed to play for Northwest Nazarene University in Nampa, Idaho.

Williams averaged 7.6 points, 2.19 assists and one steal per game this season. He received All-Conference honorable mention. In 2007-2008, Williams was the best defensive player for NIC, holding leading scorers in the conference to low point totals. Williams averaged 21 points per game for Annapolis High School.

Shawn Henderson, a sophomore guard from Seattle, signed earlier this season with the University of Idaho.

The Cardinals were the Scenic West Athletic Conference champions and finished the 2008-2009 season at 27-4.
