Twins rally to beat Mariners 6-5; Silva's turn on Wednesday

MINNEAPOLIS - After their bullpen blew a two-run lead in the bottom of the ninth inning last night at Minnesota for their first loss of the season, the Seattle Mariners send right-hander Carlos Silva tonight against Twins right-hander Kevin Slowey.

The Mariners lost to the Twins 6-5 last night when Alexi Casilla's two-run single capped Minnesota's three-run rally with two outs in the ninth inning.

Mariners closer Brandon Morrow (0-1) was brought in to protect a 5-3 lead in the ninth and retired retired his first two batters before walking the bases loaded. Miguel Batista relieved and Denard Span chopped an RBI infield single to third that made the score 5-4. Casilla lined the next pitch from Batista up the middle, scoring Brendan Harris and Brian Buscher.

Endy Chavez and Adrian Beltre each drove in two runs for the Mariners , who won their regular season opener at Minnesota Monday night.

Erik Bedard made his first start for the Mariners since July 4 and allowed three runs over five innings, striking out eight.

In tonight's (Wednesday) game that starts at 5:10, Silva will try start turning around a major league career that went awry last season, when he was 4-15 with a 6.46 ERA with the Mariners . Slowey was 12-11 with a 3.99 ERA last season.
