PULLMAN,Wash. - Only a few months ‘till college football season, which means Paul Wullf and the Cougars will kick off spring practice Thursday afternoon in Pullman.

The Cougars return 41 letterman from last year's 2-11 squad.  They're also still hampered by injuries, as several players underwent surgeries during the offseason.  Two running backs, Chris Ivory and Chantz Staden, will not participate in spring ball because of injuries.

Despite the injuries among the running backs, however, Wulff said there should be some healthy competition for the position in spring ball.  Addressing fans in a web chat on Wednesday, he said Dwight Tardy (SR), Marcus Richmond (JR), James Montgomery (JR) and Logwone Mitz (SO) would get plenty of attention and reps.

One of the top priorities this year, Wulff said, will be the defensive line.  On the offensive side of the ball, he believes the quarterbacks and receivers also need to produce more.
