Chiefs move playoff game vs. Seattle to accommodate Zags

SPOKANE, Wash. - The powers-that-be in the Spokane Chiefs organization thought it just wasn't fair to the fans.  Two major sporting events in one night?  No way.  So they rescheduled game five of their first round playoff series with the Seattle Thunderbirds - from Friday night to Saturday.

The "other game" is, of course, the Gonzaga Bulldogs Sweet 16 game against top-seeded North Carolina, with tipoff scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday.  That was when the puck would have dropped in Spokane for the Chiefs.

"We didn't think it would be fair to ask sports fans in our community to choose between watching Gonzaga in the NCAA tournament or attending a Chiefs playoff game," said Chiefs Vice President Mark Miles in a news release Monday.

So the Chiefs - and the Thunderbirds - decided to move the game to Saturday at 7 p.m. at Spokane Arena.

The series between the two teams is tied at one a piece, with games three and four being played in Spokane this weekend.  The Chiefs won the first game 2-1.  The Thunderbirds won game two 2-1 last Saturday.

Game 6 in the series will be Sunday in Seattle.  Game 7, if necessary, returns to Spokane on Tuesday.
