Cougar Hardwood Classic set: Washington St. to face SEC powerhouse

Posted: Updated:

SEATTLE - The 2008-09 basketball season isn't even over yet, but Washington State already knows who they'll face in the fourth Cougar Hardwood Classic in Seattle next year.  And this one's a doozy.

Northwest Sports and Entertainment announced the Cougars will play LSU next December in Seattle.

Louisiana State University earned a No. 7 seed in this year's NCAA tournament after winning their 10th league championship with a 13-3 record.  LSU coach Trent Johnson, a native of Seattle, was named the SEC coach of the year this season.

The last time WSU and LSU played was December 27, 2008 in Baton Rouge.  The Tigers rallied to a 64-52 win after trailing by seven midway through the second half.  LSU finished that game with a 24-5 run.  The Tigers lead the all-time series 2-1.

Washington State is 4-0 all-time in Cougar Hardwood Classic games.  They've defeated Montana State, The Citadel, San Diego State and Utah over the past four years.  In all, the Cougars have won the last seven of eight games played in Seattle.

Tickets to the Cougar Hardwood Classic will be released over the summer.
