Men’s basketball roundup: Willamette pulls upset of No. 5 Whitworth

Jordan Jenkins scored 23 points and Willamette upset No. 5 Whitworth 95-93 on Saturday in Salem, Oregon.

Jonathan Watts added 19 points and 11 rebounds and Justus Eaglesmith notched 18 points for the Bearcats (6-13, 3-7 Northwest Conference), who snapped a 22-game losing streak to Whitworth.

Willamette shot 59 percent (36 of 61) from the floor and 60 percent (12 of 20) on 3-pointers.

Ben College and Jared Christy scored 22 points each for the Pirates (15-3, 8-2).

Whitworth trailed by double digits in each half but closed to within two after College sank a pair of free throws with 5 seconds left. The Pirates forced a turnover, but College’s 3-point attempt just before the buzzer bounced off the rim.

The loss snapped Whitworth’s five-game winning streak. Kyle Roach added 12 points and Isaiah Hernandez scored 11 for the Pirates.

North Idaho 131, Yakima Valley 83: RayQuan Evans tallied 21 points as the Cardinals (18-2, 7-0 NWAC) routed the Yaks (5-14, 2-5) in Coeur d’Alene.

Iaian McLaughlin scored 19 points and James Carlson added 14 points for NIC, which had seven players score in double figures. Jarod Greene posted 10 points and 11 rebounds.

NIC shot 59.3 percent (48 of 81) from the field and 93.9 percent (31 of 33) from the free-throw line to earn its 10th straight win.

Latjor Bayath scored 14 points and Jordan Blodgett and Kyrie McRaven added 13 apiece for Yakima Valley.
