Women’s basketball: Makana Stone powers Whitman past Whitworth

Makana Stone scored 21 points and grabbed 17 rebounds Tuesday night, leading five Whitman players in double figures as the Blues rallied to defeat host Whitworth 91-86 in Northwest Conference play.

Whitman, which trailed 35-32 at the half, matched that production in the third quarter, outscoring the Pirates 32-25 to lead 64-60 after three. Kaelan Shamseldin hit 5 of 8 3-pointers and scored 20 points for the Blues (10-3, 4-0), who received 13 points from Mady Burdett. Kaylie McCracken, Taylor Chambers and Brittaney Van Buren each contributed 11.

Camy Aguinaldo’s 20 points led four Whitworth players in double figures. Jordan Smith hit 5 of 9 from beyond the arc and finished with 17 points. Madison Abbott added 12, Talia Brandner 11 for the Pirates (8-5, 3-1). Whitworth visits George Fox on Friday.
