Gonzaga-Pepperdine: 3 keys to the Bulldogs’ 92-64 victory over the Waves

UPDATED: Thu., Feb. 21, 2019, 9:22 p.m.

By Justin Reed The Spokesman-Review

Key moment

Josh Perkins lobbed a pass up to his favorite high-flying target, Brandon Clarke, midway through the second half and a soft layup off the glass gave the redshirt senior the program record for most assists in a career. He passed Matt Santangelo, who held the record for 19 years.

Offensive MVP

Toss up between Rui Hachimura and Zach Norvell Jr., but we’ll give it to Norvell, the redshirt sophomore, who buried a flurry of shots in the first half that separated the Zags from the Waves for good. He finished with 21 points, four 3-pointers and four assists.

Defensive MVP

Clarke, who was named a semifinalist for the Naismith defensive player of the year award earlier Thursday, added five blocks and 11 rebounds to improve his chances for the honor. He blocked a shot against the backboard and pinned another between the board and the rim.
