Spokane Indians catcher Yohel Pozo was involved in a hazing incident last fall in the Dominican Republic but has been cleared by Dominican authorities and the Texas Rangers, the Indians’ parent club, according to a Rangers spokesperson.

Pozo reportedly remains under investigation by Major League Baseball. The Indians referred all questions regarding the matter to the Rangers.

It’s alleged that Pozo and three teammates sexually assaulted a teammate at the Rangers’ Dominican Republic academy, first reported by Yahoo Sports’ Jeff Passan on Nov. 21, 2016.

Paul Kruger, the Rangers’ assistant director for player personnel, said no charges have been filed against Pozo or the other players and the case has been closed in the Dominican Republic.

“Some things are true, some are not,” Kruger said. “The investigation by Dominican authorities has been concluded and he’s been let off without any charges. From our end, it’s a closed case. We’re moving forward with Yohel.”

MLB is looking in to the incident but can’t impose criminal charges.

Pozo is in his fourth year in the Rangers’ system. He spent his first two years in the Dominican Summer League and last year in Arizona.

He led the Arizona League in hitting last year, batting .343.

“Based on his play on the field, we promoted him to Spokane,” Kruger said.
