Craig Parry had five birdies in a six-hole stretch on the way to a 65 and a two-shot lead halfway through the Colonial National Invitation golf tournament in Fort Worth, Texas.
The stocky, 5-foot-6 Australian had the best round of a breezy day and completed two trips over the Colonial Country Club course in 131, 9 under par.
Lennie Clements, still looking for his first victory in a 15-season PGA Tour career, was second at 133 after a 69. Jeff Maggert, who had a hole-in-one in his round of 68, was next at 134, and Tom Lehman followed at 135 after a 68.
Hometown boy Clark Dennis, who shared the first-round lead with Clements, had a lost ball, a shot into a gully and another into a bunker and took a triple bogey-7 on No. 5. He went on to a 74 and a 138 total, seven off the pace.
Kirk Triplett of Pullman carded a 72 for 141, 10 shots off the pace.
Pat Bradley shot a 4-under-par 68 to lead Loretta Alderete and Alison Nicholas by two strokes in the $550,000 Corning Classic in Corning, N.Y.
Larry Gilbert rallied with four birdies on the back nine to finish with a 67 and a one-shot lead after the first day of the $1.1 million Quicksilver Classic at Midway, Pa., a Senior Tour event.
