Cristian Roldan’s early strike lifts Sounders past Dynamo 1-0

Cristian Roldan scored from outside the penalty area for the second straight week, lifting the Seattle Sounders to a 1-0 win over the Houston Dynamo in a meeting between two of the top teams in the Western Conference. Roldan’s half-volley goal from 25 yards in the fifth minute gave Seattle its first victory since April 13 and bumped the Sounders into a tie with the L.A. Galaxy for second in the West, each with 22 points. Houston lost for just the second time all season.

Sounders sign two defenders ahead of deadline, bringing back Joevin Jones and adding Xavier Arreaga

The Seattle Sounders bolstered their defense by signing Ecuadorian central defender Xavier Arreaga and bringing back Joevin Jones ahead of the MLS transfer window deadline. Arreaga is being signed as a designated player after the 24-year-old spent the past four seasons with Barcelona SC in Ecuador. Jones, who played for Seattle through the 2017 season, is returning after spending time in German playing for SV Darmstadt.

Sounders midfielder Cristian Roldan has red card rescinded

Sounders midfielder Cristian Roldan will be eligible to play when Seattle travels to Minnesota United after his red card from last weekend’s game was rescinded. The team said it had won its appeal of Roldan’s red card from Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Los Angeles FC. Roldan would otherwise have been suspended for Saturday’s game against Minnesota United.
