Twitter comments lead to Idaho player's suspension

Associated Press - March 6, 2010 1:54 PM ET

MOSCOW, Idaho (AP) - Twitter comments critical of the Idaho basketball coach have led to the indefinite suspension of the team's second-leading scorer.

Coach Don Verlin suspended Kashif Watson Friday without an explanation. But Watson on his Twitter account wrote on Friday that he was in trouble for his Twitter comments.

Previously Watson wrote after losses that he didn't know how the team was supposed to win with Verlin coaching, and questioned the coach's desire to win.

Watson will miss Saturday's game against Hawaii, but the suspension will be reviewed before the upcoming Western Athletic Conference tournament.

Verlin says Watson's suspension is for conduct detrimental to the program.

Watson has averaged 10.7 points a game for the Vandals, 14-15 overall, 5-10 in the Western Athletic Conference.
