Mere hours after Kashif Watson led the Idaho Vandals to a win over San Jose State and a spot in the conference tournament, coach Don Verlin suspended the senior guard from the team.

The university announced the decision to the media shortly after 2 p.m. on Friday, saying only that Watson was involved in "conduct detrimental to the program".

"Kashif's suspension is a matter that he must work through in order to be reinstated for practice and play," Verlin said in a news release. "The matter will be revisited prior to the WAC Tournament next week."

Watson started every game for the Vandals this season and is second on the team in scoring.  He averaged 10.7 points per game to go along with 3 rebounds, 2.1 assists and a 46.7 percent shooting percentage.

The senior guard from Las Vegas, Nev., scored 17 points for the Vandals in Thursday night's win over San Jose State.  His buzzer-beating 3-pointer to end the first half was selected by ESPN as the No. 2 play on SportsCenter's Top 10.

The win over the Spartans secured a spot in the Western Athletic Conference tournament next week.

The Vandals final game of the regular season - Senior Night - is Saturday at 5 p.m. The game against Hawaii can be seen live on SWX-TV.
