EWU's Glen Dean was named the Freshman of the Year in the Big Sky Conference (Photo: EWU Athletics)The Eastern Washington Eagles might not have made the postseason this year, but one of their players received big honors from the Big Sky Conference. Glen Dean was named the conference's Freshman of the Year.
Dean, a 5-10" guard from Seattle, averaged 12.2 points per game for the Eagles. He also averaged 4.4 assists per game. As a true freshman, Dean finished 11th in the conference in scoring and second in assists.
Just counting games against Big Sky opponents, Dean scored an average of 14.4 points per game and made a league-best 5.2 assists per game. He also made better than 80 percent of his free throws and shot 42.9 percent from 3-point range.
Dean was also an honorable mention All-Big Sky Conference player and the only Eagle to receive postseason recognition from the conference.
The Big Sky's Player of the Year was Damian Lillard from Weber State. The guard from Oakland, Calif. was a unanimous selection who averaged nearly 20 points per game. He led the league in 3-point shooting, was fourth in assists and fifth in free throw percentage. Lillard reached double figures in 26 of the Wildcats' 28 games and scored at least 30 points twice.
