(Photo: Univ. of Idaho Athletics)After finishing the regular season with a road win against conference-rival Nevada, the Idaho Vandals can now turn their attention to more important matters: most notably the New Mexico State Aggies.
The Idaho women's team is set to play NMSU Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. in the opening round of the Western Athletic Conference tournament. They'll try to make it past first round for the first time since joining the conference. The winner between Idaho and New Mexico State will play either No. 1 Fresno State or No. 8 Hawaii.
Of course, seed positions don't mean much in a league that has a three-way tie for fourth place in the conference. The Aggies made sure it turned out that way by blowing out San Jose State on Saturday to go even with Idaho and Boise State.
But Idaho seems to have New Mexico State's number. The Vandals have swept the Aggies in back-to-back seasons and now lead the all-time series 15-8. The last three games, however, were very close. Idaho won 68-65 in Las Cruces and then beat them 60-59 at the Cowan Spectrum on a questionable in the closing seconds.
Wednesday's game in Reno, Nev. will not be televised.
