With a stroke of a pen, Ferris' Kjelby Oiland made himself the only recruit from Washington state to commit to playing college football in the state of Nevada.  Oiland signed a letter of intent Wednesday to play for former Montana coach Bobby Hauk at UNLV.

"I like the coaching staff a lot, they're up on the rise and I think they're going to win," said Oiland after signing on the dotted line.  "It's a good conference, too."

Oiland is expected to play at the defensive tackle position for the Rebels, who are in need of both size and speed to better compete in the powerful Mountain West Conference.  At 6-4 and 270 pounds, Oiland was named an Associated Press second team 4A All-State selection in 2009.  He was also a first team All-GSL selection.

"Kjelby Oiland is a big interior defensive line player and the lone player from the Northwest in this class," said Hauk in a news release. "I appreciate his willingness to get out of his comfort zone and come to Las Vegas to play football."

UNLV's class consists of student-athletes whose hometowns are spread among five states: eight from Nevada, six from California, four from Texas and one each from Washington and Colorado.
