A couple of notable games dot the Prep schedule Thursday – most notably the Groovy Shoes spirit contest between North Central and Shadle.

From a basketball win-loss perspective, the girls game at 3:45 in the afternoon is one to watch.  Both teams are 10-7 in the Greater Spokane League, tied for third place.  That's a tie in back of a three-way tie for first place between Mead, Central Valley and Lewis & Clark.  It's evidently true that the rest of the GSL has picked up their game to inch closer to the perennial favorite, Lewis & Clark.

Not only are the Indians and Highlanders tied in conference play, they're also tied in overall record (10-4, 7-4), making Thursday's game that much more important for seeding purposes in the District playoffs.

On the boys side of things, Shadle holds a two-game lead over North Central in the GSL standings.  Shadle (9-2) is the No. 1 3A team in the league, while North Central (7-4) is right behind them in the No. 2 position.  A win by the Indians would get them closer to earning a higher seed and a more favorable first-round game in the playoffs.

As for the spirit contest that makes Groovy Shoes so, well, groovy – it's anyone's guess who'll win this year.  Shadle won the basketball games, but NC took home the Groovy Shoes.

The Groovy Shoes games – boys and girls – will be broadcast live on SWX and can be seen on SWXRightNow.com via GrandStadium.TV (pay-per-view).

Game of the Week – Mead at Gonzaga Prep

Perhaps the biggest game in terms of consequences on Thursday is the boys game between Gonzaga Prep (16-1, 11-1) and Mead (13-4, 11-1).

The Bullpups have just one loss this season: to Mead on Dec. 19.  Although the Panthers have four losses on their overall record, their only loss in the GSL was to Ferris on Jan. 5 – a game that seems out of place on their long list of wins since then.  Thursday's game is for first place in the GSL and will likely determine who gets to play a 4-seed in the playoffs and who'll be stuck in a 2-3 matchup.
