PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State’s Klay Thompson scored a career high 37 points, lifting the Cougars to a 89-70 thumping of visiting Indiana Purdue-Fort Wayne Thursday night in Pullman.
“It felt really good, I’ve never shot that well in a game this year or last year,” said Thompson in a news release after the game. “I’ve got to give a lot of credit to my teammates because they got me the ball and got me the ball when I was open.”
Thompson went 15-of-20 from the field including two-of-three from 3-point range. He added three rebounds to the stat sheet, along with two steals in 29 minutes of play.
“When he (Klay) shot it, it seemed like the hoop was five feet in diameter. They were just dropping in,” said coach Ken Bone. “Anything he was going to put up was going to go in. He put on a show and hopefully it is not the last time he does it.”

The Cougars jumped out to an early lead when Freshman Reggie Moore hit a 3-pointer to open the game. Thompson followed that up, hitting his first five shots to build a 16-9 lead.
The Cougars led the Mastadons by 13 at the half. The teams went back and forth at the beginning of the second, but WSU went on a 12-2 run capped by two free throws from Thompson as a result of a technical foul called on IPFW coach Dane Fife.
A layup by IPFW’s Deilvez Yearby cut the lead to 15 at the 12:06 mark, but that was as close as the Mastadons would get.
Washington State will head to Anchorage, Alaska to take part in the Great Alaska Shootout starting Nov. 25. They kick things off against The University of Alaska Anchorage in the opening round.
