The former Atlanta Falcons quarterback, now finished serving prison time or dogfighting, signed a one year $1.6 million contract with Philadelphia. The contract includes an option for the second season.
Vick spoke at a 25-minute news conference Friday morning with Eagles coach Randy Reid and advisor Tony Dungey at his side. Dressed in a gray suit and yellow shirt and tie, Vick admitted he's made mistakes, paid the price and done what he could to stay in playing shape over the past two years.
"I made some mistakes, I did some terrible things, made a horrible mistake," he said. "Now I want to be part of the solution and not the problem."
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said Vick can participate in team activities - even play in the Eagles final two preseason games - but will consider full reinstatement into the league by week six of the regular season.
Vick, who served 18 months of a 23-month prison sentence for his role in a dogfighting ring, believes he's paid the price for his mistakes.
"I think as long as you're willing to come back and do it the right way, that you're committed, then I think you deserve it, but you only get one shot at a second chance."
Reid said at the news conference that Vick deserves forgiveness.
"Michael has aggressively attacked the issue that he was presented with and has done it in a manner that is not only proactive but sincere," said Reid.
